Hi Michael, I just had a look at your map progress an as I did another location post appeared. Intriguing concept to get one's head around - to get such feedback on your location from halfway around the world. Bit spooky actually. Cheers.

Hey uncle Michael,
Sounds like a pleasant start to your trip. However you're in for a whole bunch of fun temperature wise. It ranges from 3 to 12 degrees at the moment but that doesn't include the wind chill factor as the wind seriously feels like ice!

I'm sure you'll have an awesome time though. I've got colleagues that are hiking this weekend in Wales and then again in 3 weeks time off the north west coast of Scotland...if a winging pom can do it then I've faith in a can do Aussie! :-)

Quite an ingenious way to save a lot of weight for a tripod! I don't think this would be possible with my Gossamer Gear LT 4's, though I like the multi-functionality of the GorillaPod SLR. Maybe in the future I will try a similar mod, at the moment I'm just too busy.

Update on the update.

After I arrived back from town with the Exos 58, an email arrived from Gossamer Gear stating that the Mariposa Plus is back in stock. Although the Exos is great - the hipbelt on the 58 is a lot better than the unpadded affair on the 34, I have ordered the Mariposa as it gives me choice - it's already shipped! Should be here next week.

My camera gear will live in a waist pack on it's way from Kinesis Photo Gear with either pack. More on that when it arrives in a couple of days.

Also had a Tetanus booster and a Flu shot (including INH1) last week.

Not enjoying the reports of smoke and ash from the Iceland Volcano shutting down air services in the UK...

Hi Mec,

Thanks for the info. I guess shipping from the production facility to Denmark is quicker than to Australia. Who would have thought? Unfortunately, I have had to give it up. I have had communications from the distributor and from Aarn that it is in shipping and cannot arrive earlier than expected. It might arrive 'just' in time, but that is now too risky - a customs hiccup or shipping delay somewhere would ruin my efforts so I am now on plan B :)

I'm a great fan of Aarn, and I would have loved to carry one across Scotland, maybe another time. You'll find it is a great system, especially at the end of the day.

The Exos is pretty good. Nothing like the Aarn, but still a decent and light pack in its own right. I too have the Pacer Poles and have been training with them quite a bit.

Hi, I pre-ordered my Aarn Mountain Magic 55 in January with a local Danish distributor and received the pack last week. So I would double check ETA before canceling, since it appears that the packs are finally being sent out.

I have not tried an Aarn pack before, so both the many straps and the Balance Pockets takes some extra fiddling with, but the load balancing seems to really work. And the FlowMo system keeps the pack stable while allowing a lot of upper body movement. Looking forward to using the pack with the Pacer poles I'll receive next week - seems like the perfect combo.

I hope you get your Aarn pack in time - otherwise the Exos would be a good, if more 'standard' choice. Had my eyes on the Exos 58 for a long time, before deciding that I had to try out Aarn's bodypack concept :)
